How is my privacy protected during counseling services?
BBS is committed to protecting your privacy and confidentiality. All counseling services provided in the state of Ohio comply with applicable state laws and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Client records, session content, and personal information are kept confidential and securely stored.
 

Are counseling sessions confidential?
Yes. Counseling sessions are confidential, with limited exceptions required by Ohio law. Confidentiality may be broken only in specific circumstances, including but not limited to:
Risk of serious harm to yourself or others

 

• Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult

• A court order or legal requirement

• Professional consultation or supervision (without identifying information whenever possible)

• These limits to confidentiality will be reviewed during the informed consent process.

How does privacy differ between counseling and coaching?
While counseling services are protected under HIPAA and Ohio mental health laws, coaching services are not considered mental health treatment and are not covered by HIPAA. However, Becoming Beautifully Strong Counseling & Coaching still values your privacy and takes reasonable steps to protect personal information shared during coaching sessions. Coaching confidentiality policies will be clearly outlined in coaching agreements and intake documents.

How is my information stored and protected?
Client information is maintained using secure, HIPAA-compliant systems for scheduling, documentation, and communication. Reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards are in place to protect your personal and health information.

Will my information be shared with insurance companies?
Because we are a self-pay practice, we do not submit information to insurance companies. If you choose to submit out-of-network claims independently, you are responsible for sharing any information requested by your insurance provider.
